No vent pipe for plumbing drain

On a recent Hardin County Home inspection we discovered several issues with the plumbing. We have suggested to many of the residents to visit this website, and have someone come out and check their plumbing. The house was about 50 years old and the previous homeowner have done a little work around the house.  Most home owners just do not know the rules to adding plumbing, electrical or other components to the home.  Home owners just do not get enough experience doing these and it is best left to the professionals.  This is one find the was not a huge deal for this buyer- but was a little funny.

The owner of this Hardin County home wanted to add a sink to the basement.  Sound simple enough- but the hang up is usually a drain and vent line.  All plumbing fixtures need an air vent to help them work.  This owner had a clean out to the plumbing drain handy so he simple added a sink directly to the drain.  There is not vent present and the attachment to the drain line was leaking.  Again, no vent is usually a big deal- but the buyer was going to have some work done here by local Mesa plumbers anyway so it was not a big concern at the time. This is a great example of how a little knowledge can be more dangerous than none. Always get a professional to work on your home plumbing, unless you are a professional.
